Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Congresswoman Aumua Amata held a town hall meeting in Tula village to discuss issues and legislation, events in Washington, and federal services for constituents.

The Congresswoman regularly holds town hall meetings throughout American Samoa to speak face-to-face, hear concerns directly, and update constituents on all the work being done in Washington that affects American Samoa.

“It was a pleasure to be in beautiful Tula village again, and I appreciate everyone who came out to the meeting,” said Aumua Amata. “We had a lot to discuss. I enjoyed my time with you, and more importantly, learned what you have on your minds.”

Topics discussed at a Town Hall often include veterans, health care issues, fishing policies, concerns about programs and funding, and any other needs that should be discussed. The Congresswoman reports back on pending legislative efforts, such as the status of disaster relief funds for Medicaid and nutrition assistance that are currently under negotiation in the U.S. Senate, ongoing VA reforms, and her citizenship choice bill, which she has introduced to make it simpler for U.S. nationals to become citizens if they choose.

 “I appreciate everyone who spoke up at the meeting, and everyone who just came out to listen,” said Congresswoman Amata. “I will be back in Washington soon, and I look forward to discussing our islands in the Capitol and making sure our needs are always known in Congress.”
