Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The case against Logoitino Amituana’i who is charged with escape from confinement is now bound over to the High Court, after the defendant waived his right to the preliminary examination that was scheduled before District Court Judge Fiti Sunia yesterday morning.

Amituana’i, who is still in custody serving time for a previous conviction, is scheduled to appear in High Court this morning for arraignment. He is represented by Public Defender Michael White while prosecuting the case is Assistant Attorney General Christy Dunn.

The government claims that Amituana’i allegedly escaped from confinement sometime earlier this month.

According to the government’s case, Amituana’i cut through the fence at the back of the Territorial Correctional Facility (TCF) at night, and made his way outside of the TCF compound without any authorization.

It was during the morning session at the TCF when prison guards, who were on duty, did a head count, and discovered that Amituana’i was missing.

Local authorities were notified and several police officers including prison guards were sent out to locate Amituana’i who was captured later that same day and returned to the TCF.
