Symposium Day 2: Fautasi Heritage Magazine coming soon

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Day 2 of the first ever Fautasi Heritage Symposium, last Thursday, co-hosted by the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa (NMSAS) and the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office (ASHPO) at the Tauese P. F. Sunia Ocean Center, included round table discussions with break-out groups (featuring team captains and village leaders, students, and community members), to explore oral history and discuss the future and sustainability of fautasi.

The discussions, according to the NMSAS, are ongoing and will be included in a Fautasi Heritage magazine that will be published at a later date.

Presentations were made by Bluesky's Sherry Sele and Colette Fong (sponsorship of fautasi); Paula Stevenson McDonald (water sports tourism); Leoititi Maselino Ioane (boat building and design) and Tamiano Gurr (future and sustainability of fautasi amongst youth).

The final day of the Fautasi Heritage Symposium - last Friday - included guided educational tours.
