Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Sandra King Young announced that she has officially registered her campaign committee with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), marking the official launch of her campaign for Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives from American Samoa.

The filing formally establishes the campaign under federal law and authorizes the committee to raise funds, report financial activity, and operate in full compliance with federal election requirements.

"Registering with the Federal Election Commission is more than a legal requirement — it is a commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust," said King Young. "It is also the first step in building a campaign focused on the future of American Samoa and the challenges facing our people in Washington, D.C."

The Federal Election Commission is the independent agency responsible for enforcing federal campaign finance laws. Registration ensures public disclosure of campaign contributions and expenditures, providing voters with transparency into how campaigns are funded and operated.

King Young said her decision to run is rooted in part by a simple belief: American Samoa needs proactive representation that identifies challenges early and acts before they become crises.

"The cost of inaction is simply too high," she said. "Today, we face critical issues that will shape the future of our territory for generations. The growing threat of deep-sea mining demands immediate action to ensure responsible stewardship of our ocean resources at the same time, pursuing more responsible economic development.

“The omission of American Samoa's permanent residents from Medicare eligibility under the One Big Beautiful Act threatens healthcare access for many families. And the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education raises serious concerns about the future of federal support for our public and private schools.

“These are just a few of the many critical issues that I will champion if elected as your representative to Congress. These are not just tomorrow's issues—they are today's issues, and they require proactive leadership now.” 

King Young added, "This campaign is dedicated to protecting our interests, expanding economic opportunity, strengthening healthcare, supporting education, and ensuring that American Samoa has a proactive, strong, and respected voice in Congress."

Over the coming months, King Young will engage voters across the territory through village visits, community meetings, and direct conversations about the issues that matter most to American Samoa's future.
