Retirees finally receive direct-deposit

Recipients of the ASG Employees Retirement Fund who were supposed to receive their monthly benefit payments via direct deposit on Nov. 15, finally received money in their bank accounts the following day.

Several recipients went to the Retirement Office on Nov. 15 to find out why their direct deposit wasn’t in their bank accounts and were told that this was due to a “bank error” by Bank of Hawaii, which processes the direct deposit payments.

Some of the recipients who contacted Samoa News on Tuesday said they didn’t get their money, called back on Wednesday saying that they have received it. “So far, I think all of us finally got our money and this is great for all of us,” said one of the female recipients.

BoH local branch manager, EJ Oz had told Samoa News late Tuesday afternoon that they discovered “an internal technical error” on Tuesday that created the delay in payments for some recipients. Additionally, the payment was to be in the accounts of recipients by the next day.

According to Retirement Office, only direct deposits recipients were affected— not recipients who receive paper checks
