Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Available police units are having to transport Territorial Correctional Facility (TCF) inmates and detainees to scheduled court appearances and medical appointments because the TCF van is not operable.

Earlier this month, Samoa News reported on the deteriorating conditions of the van that transports detainees to court. Windows are boarded up, the roof leaks, there are no rear view mirrors, no police radio, no siren, etc.

It's been over a week since police units have had to transport the prisoners. Samoa News understands that following a series heavy rains about two weeks ago, the van's interior got soaked and water from the leaky roof dripped down into the horn and set it off.

No word yet on if and when the TCF will get a new van.

Meanwhile, Samoa News understands that DPS is in the process of acquiring two new vehicles, neither of which is for the TCF.
