Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A 41-year-old woman from Pago Pago who is accused of walking around with a knife and threatening to stab her father and sister has been arrested.

Katerina Tufele made her initial appearance in District Court this week. She was represented by Assistant Public Defender Ryan Anderson, while prosecuting the case was Assistant Attorney General Jason Mitchell.

Judge Fiti Sunia released Tufele on her own recognizance subject to certain conditions. She is to keep the peace at her residence, and be alcohol and drug free, and she is to remain law abiding and not possess any dangerous weapons.

The government claims that it was last Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, when a family member contacted the Fagatogo police station for assistance regarding a relative who was acting violent and armed with a knife. 

The caller told police that Tufele was walking around with a knife and yelling at her father and relatives who were in the house.

Furthermore, Tufele was arguing with her sister and she started walking around with a knife, cutting herself on both arms. Police officers were also told that Tufele had threatened to stab her sister and her father with the knife.

For her own safety and also the safety of her family, and to prevent further breach of the peace, officers decided to take Tufele in.

Tufele is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30, 2018 for her next hearing.
