Katie Godinet’s Ava Ceremony, is now displayed in the United States Capitol.

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Aumua Amata is pleased to announce that the winning piece of the Malofie Art Competition, Katie Godinet’s Ava Ceremony, is now displayed in the United States Capitol.

Katie’s painting will be displayed for one year, until next year’s art winner is chosen. While getting a work of art displayed in the Capitol is an honor in and of itself, Katie Godinet, who is from Pago Pago, has the distinct honor of having had two of her paintings displayed in the Capitol. Her first painting was also last year’s art winner.

“I am so proud of Katie Godinet and all of our young artists who seek to represent and promote our culture through art,” Amata said. “Any time I walk the art hallway to the U.S. Capitol, I get to see this painting and be reminded of home. What makes me even happier is that the millions of people who visit the Capitol each year can now see for themselves a little piece of our beloved American Samoa.”
