Overall winners in American Samoa History Day competition

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Students from public and private schools — high school and elementary — during last month’s Island Wide History Day competition. Education director Dr. Ruth Matagi-Tofiga said Tafuna High School is the overall winner for the Senior division, and Manumalo Baptist is the overall winner for the Junior division.

The First Place Senior overall winner is Karlinna Sanchez of Samoana High School, 2nd Place Koneferenisi Purcell of Manumalo Baptist, and 3rd place is Anna-Marie Kutty of Tafuna High School.

The First Place Junior overall is Eciladen Ulu of Samoa Baptist Academy, 2nd place went to Gideon Finau of Coleman Elementary and 3rd place, Chloe Marie Leiato of Manumalo.

All 6 students will travel to the National History Day Competition at the University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland. Competition is set for June 10-14.

“We are sending the top 6 winners to compete in the National History Day,” said Matagi-Tofiga, noting that “these students work hard, they present their projects in classrooms, compete in their school competition, then the Island Wide Competition, now they have the chance to compete in the National level.”

“This is will be a great learning experience for our students. We wish our students the best in the National History Day Competition,” she said yesterday.
