Medicaid Office issues additional $1.7 million to LBJ hospital

The American Samoa Medicaid Agency has provided additional funding of $1,745,032 as a result of completing the reconciliation of LBJ's Medicare Cost Reports for the fiscal year 2015.

The reconciliation revealed additional expenditures incurred by LBJ that they were not reimbursed for in this period that would need to be drawn down. This is an interim reconciliation performed by the Medicaid Office once LBJ issues its as-filed Medicare cost report for the year.

The Medicaid Agency made a request to the US Center for Medicaid and Medicare Service (CMS) for additional funding from the ACA (Affordable Care Act) account in order to pay the additional $1.7 million to LBJ.

"When the Lolo Administration came into office, it was taking as long as 2 months for LBJ to receive its monthly Medicaid reimbursements. That time has since been reduced to as little as 5 days. The Medicaid agency has worked diligently to find ways to increase reimbursements to LBJ by looking at ways to operate existing Medicaid policies and streamlining processes for claiming.”

“The Medicaid agency has also expedited the use of more recent LBJ Medicaid Cost Reports to reconcile year-end expenditures to more quickly realize the actual costs of delivery health care. As a result, LBJ received $1.7 million a year sooner rather than the historical 3 to 4 year wait for reconciliation. This really helps American Samoa draw down funds from the ACA Medicaid account."
