Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — This recent photo shows the now paved gathering area for students at Pava'ia'i Elementary School, whose Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in early October sought out former faipule Larry Sanitoa, for help in paving the site, which gets very muddy and unsafe during bad weather.

Sanitoa, the faipule-elect for Tualauta District, in turn reached out to McConnell Dowell, which responded favorably. The project is now complete.

In an email correspondence last Thursday, Sanitoa informed McConnell Dowell senior official Stuart Pilat that the Pava'ia'i Elementary PTA held a special ceremony to bless the newly paved gathering area for the students two weeks ago.

McConnell Dowell was represented by project manager Toetau Pouifi Tufuga during the ceremony.

“Thank you again for agreeing to pave the extended area for the students,” Sanitoa wrote to Pilat. “The cost of the entire project — as I understand — was approximately $15,000.”

“Aside from the school using the area for assembly, special events, and graduations, the students can now use the area for their physical fitness and sports activities,” Sanitoa explained, adding that on behalf of the students, parents, and teachers he extends a "fa'afetai tele lava" for the “amazing work by McConnell Dowell that will long be remembered by generations that will attend Pava'ia'i Elementary.”
