Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Education Department director Dr. Ruth Matagi-Tofiga said the recent monetary donation to LBJ Medical Center by the National Honor Society (NHS) at Manu’a High School should serve as a challenge to other NHS chapters in the territory.

Matagi-Tofiga, on behalf of Manu’a High’s NHS made on June 22, a $1,000 donation to the hospitals End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Dialysis Unit. (See Samoa News edition June 27 for details.)

“As we completed High School graduations, and the majority of our students are taking Summer vacation, participating in the Summer Youth Employment Program or reading programs,  Manu'a High School National Honor Society Chapter has been busy fundraising for their Community Project” for the ESRD unit, said Matagi-Tofiga responding to Samoa News inquiries.

She added, “This is a challenge to all NHS Chapters, get involved in community service, develop empathy and leadership skills, and realize how their actions can have a positive impact.” She noted that Manu’a High NHS started this donation last year, as part of its community service.
