Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — As part of his closing remarks at a recent cabinet meeting, Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga told cabinet members, “I know after six years of running this government, we’re all up to the point, that we are not only getting tired, but we’re getting frustrated in a lot of ways.”

“But we do have a commitment to our people. Our commitment is to serve our people the best way we can. So whatever we are doing, no matter how tired we are, we promised that — commitment — to our people,” he said.

“We believed the last two years of our administration would be the toughest challenge in our lives,” said Lolo, whose second term in office comes to an end before 12-noon on Jan. 3, 2021 when a new governor takes over after the November 2020 general election. “This is your only chance to do whatever we can, or you can, for our people. We’re all at the age where we are beginning to walk the different line.”

Lolo pointed out, “we have a full plate of things to keep us busy” with many projects expected to break ground in the next two months — but he didn’t elaborate further on what are the new projects.

“We have our agenda that will guarantee when we leave, we leave a government that people can appreciate. The incoming leaders will appreciate your service and our people will definitely be happy that we do the best that we can,” he said.

Lolo also said that at the end of every two years, “we evaluate your performance. If you are tired please let us know. You don’t have to wait, tell us ‘this is where you are, you need a break’ but by all means let us know.”

By evaluating director’s performance at the end of every two years, Lolo said, “we just want to make sure that we give the best to our people”.

The second term of the administration began on Jan. 3, 2017.
