Lolo reminds cabinet of Adopt a School program for new school year
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — With the start of the new school year 2018-2019 only weeks away Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has reminded cabinet members of their respective agencies’ responsibilities under the Governor’s Adopt a School Program.
Lolo issued the reminder at his cabinet meeting last week, where the updated list was distributed to cabinet members outlining which schools — both public and private — are assigned to ASG departments, offices and semi autonomous agencies.
The new school year for public schools begins on Sept. 3 and with only six weeks to go, the governor told cabinet members that he expects clean ups by all ASG entities to be completed before students return to classes.
He said each and every ASG agency is aware of its duties and responsibilities when it comes to the school clean up and there shouldn’t be any reason why the clean up is not conducted before the start of the school year.
The governor’s chief of staff, Fiu J. Saelua announced that Health Department inspectors have started site inspections of public and private schools and DOH will then submit a report to the governor.
The Department of Public Works, which oversees public school maintenance, will also conduct a site visit and submit a report on the conditions of all public school facilities and provide their report of what needs to be repaired.
