Local organization recognized for outstanding board leadership

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Headquarters based in Atlanta, Georgia honored the Boys & Girls Clubs of American Samoa for achieving the Gold Award of the League of EAGLES Award Program.

This award is a key element of the national organization’s Great Futures 2025 Strategic Plan. The award recognizes local affiliate organizations for achieving 85% or more of the Board Governance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which defines the strength of the organizations board of directors.

Recipients of the League of Eagles Awards achieving a set of standards which provide an outcome-based assessment of the board’s responsibilities and impact on for the organization. This awards program measures six key elements of a “strong board of directors” which include 85% or more individual board members achieving certain standards.

Reaching this milestone is a significant accomplishment of which only 15% or less of the 1100-member organizations of the 160-year-old national youth development organization met in 2017. The award is a testimony of the dedication and commitment of the organization’s board and executive leadership to serving the youth of their community at the highest level.

Mary A.T. Tulafono, BGCAS Chairman of the Board of Directors, accepted the award on behalf of the BGCAS Board of Directors.

BGCAS RECEIVES $10K DONATION FROM BANKOH

The Boys & Girls Clubs of American Samoa (BGCAS) received a $10,000 donation from the Bank of Hawaii Foundation during a special presentation at the BGCAS Tafuna Clubhouse in September.

Hobbs Lowson, BOH West Pacific Region Manager and Senior Vice President, and EJ Ozu, Vice President and Branch Manager, presented the check on behalf of Bank of Hawaii to Mrs. Mary A.T. Tulafono, BGCAS Chairman of the Board of Directors.  The donation marks the sixth straight year the Foundation has generously supported the BGCAS “Great Futures- Lumana’i Lelei” After School Mentoring and “Summer Brain Gain” Programs.

During her remarks, Tulafono also acknowledged BOH’s support of the BGCAS “Money Matters” program, which teaches youth financial literacy, the basics of banking and other necessary life skills that will help prepare members to be productive, responsible and caring citizens. 

Tulafono concluded the program thanking BOH again for their support of BGCAS’ efforts to ensure youth in American Samoa go on to have GREAT FUTURES.
