LBJ CFO Gebauer opts not to renew her contract

LBJ Hospital Comptroller, Reverend Rapi Emau Amosa has been appointed as Acting Chief Financial Officer by the hospital board in response to outgoing CFO Pauline Gebauer, who has opted not to renew her contract with the hospital.

Gebauer who has been in the Health Finance field for over 20 years was hired by LBJ in 2014 when she signed a 3-year contract.

She told Samoa News at the time that what made her come back to American Samoa was the desire to give back to the community. “I am from here, my family is here, but mostly you have to have that drive… I knew I could do something, and was willing to offer… that’s the main reason.”

In response to Gebauer’s imminent departure, LBJ Chief Executive Officer, Taufete’e John Faumuina said, “Pauline's contract expires in April 2017. She wrote to the Chairman of the Board Fuiava that she has decided not to request for renewal of her contract because of family matters that she has to attend to in California. She is presently on leave in California until the end of her contract.” (Samoa News understands she is on paid leave.)

According to the CEO, the Board has since appointed Amosa as Acting CFO, until September 30, 2017, which is the end of fiscal year 2017. At that time, the Board will decide whether to advertise the position of CFO or retain Amosa as the CFO, depending on the CEO’s recommendation.

Samoa News received calls from hospital employees that Gebauer was not renewing her contract back in January prior to her going on leave. Efforts to get comments directly from the outgoing CFO were unanswered.
