Six senior Stallions from Kanana Fou HIgh School competed in the recent Island-Wide Accounting competition and the group was able to secure the first place win for the second consecutive year.

They are: Adrian Baqui, Alfred Tiatia, Elizabeth Lualua, Faatuputala Fiame, Precious Ameperosa, and Tabatha Po'a.

The competition is organized by the Department of Education's (DOE) Vocational Education Division and was held on February 17 inside the Argosy University classroom at the Pago Plaza. The official announcement of the results took place last week during the Annual Vocational Fair held at the Governor H. Rex Lee Auditorium in Utulei.

The competition involves three categories: Accounting Cycle, Banking, and Payroll Accounting.

Two students worked as partners to tackle each of the categories.

This is Kanana Fou's third year in the competition. During their first try in the 2013-2014 school year, the Stallions placed second overall and after that, there was no turning back.

Kanana Fou students got better and it shows. Last year, the school took home first place overall and this year, they did it again, beating out students from the five local public high schools (Tafuna, Leone, Faga'itua, Samoana, and Nuuuli Vocational and Technical).

According to KFHS teacher Mapuii Renthlei, because the students are paired up during the competition, they are not necessarily competing against others in the same grade level. Basically, any student in levels 10-12 who takes accounting as one of their areas of study in high school is eligible to compete and will go up against other high school students who may be in a lower, higher, or same grade level as them.

Renthlei explained that Kanana Fou was the only private high school that competed, as it is the only private school that offers accounting courses.
