Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Attention all young artists: The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council (WPRFMC) is holding a K -12 poster contest for students from both public and private schools. Each school may submit one winning entry per grade (schools are encouraged to host their own contests to select their winning entries). Each school may enter one submission per grade level.

All submitted artwork will be on display during the Fishers Forum, a public event set for Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Tauese P.F. Sunia Ocean Center in Utulei, as part of the 180th Meeting of the Council.

The theme of the contest is "American Samoa Palolo Harvest: Science & Tradition."

The top 2 students in each grade will be selected based on 2 main criteria: (1) creativity and artistic value; and (2) how well the student connects his/her submission to the theme, both from the scientific and traditional perspective.

Winners from preschool to Level 4 will receive a youth rod and reel set, while winners for grades 5-8 will be awarded a snorkel and fins set. High school winners will receive an adult rod and reel set.

All original submissions must be forwarded to the Council’s on-site coordinator for American Samoa, Nate Ilaoa, by Tuesday, October 8 at 5 p.m. Late submissions will not be accepted and the submissions will not be returned.
