Fanene Morris Scanlan passes away at 82

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Well-known local businessman and community leader Fanene Morris Scanlan passed away over the weekend at LBJ Medical Center, at 12:30a.m. on May 27, 2018 at the age of 82.

Fanene’s local businesses include Morris Scanlan Service Station in Utulei, which includes an ice cream shop and a tire service.

His community service included serving as chairman of the American Samoa Power Authority Board and also chairman of the ASG Employees' Retirement Fund Board of Trustees. He stepped down from this post in the summer of 2015 due to health reasons.

He’s survived by his wife, Sa’euteuga Le’au Scanlan; his two sisters —Cecilia Scanlan and Florence Scanlan — a daughter, 3 grandchildren, and his daughter-in-law.

Funeral services are pending.
