Members of the local marine safety detachment unit of the US Coast Guard are currently conducting an investigation into the death of a man on board a US flagged purse seiner vessel that arrived yesterday.

The Department of Public Safety was contacted about the situation Wednesday, after local USCG officials were notified of the issue prior to the vessel's arrival.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel were at the dock when the vessel sailed in, waiting to transport the man to LBJ Medical Center.

No other specific details could be obtained about the incident but Samoa News understands that the deceased is not Samoan.

The vessel is one of several US flagged purse seiners home ported here.
