WOMAN CHARGED WITH ALLEGED POLICE OFFICER ASSAULT

A woman who got into a serious argument with her husband and later allegedly assaulted a police officer, over the weekend, is facing three misdemeanor counts of third degree assault, public peace disturbance and resisting arrest.

Court information shows that charges against the woman, all started inside a fast food restaurant at Tafuna, when the woman got into a heated argument with her husband.

This resulted in people in the restaurant calling police, who arrived right away and by this time, witnesses saw the woman took off and was chased by a female officer. The woman is alleged to have assaulted the officer, after being caught by the officer.

The young couple was taken to the Tafuna police substation for questioning and then into custody. The couple made their initial appearance in District Court yesterday, where the charges were made against the woman, while the husband was charged with one count of misdemeanor public peace disturbance.

The couple is now out of custody awaiting their next court hearing later this month and the court ordered several conditions of release, including maintaining peace and being law abiding citizens.

ESEKIA VAILI

Another case out of the Tafuna area landed in District Court yesterday, and was against Esekia Vaili, who made his initial appearance, and was charged with three misdemeanor counts of third degree assault, private peace disturbance in the family, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Court information states that the defendant over the weekend went home intoxicated and allegedly hit a young female family relative, who allegedly didn’t listen when the defendant gave directions of something to be done.

Vaili was released from confinement after yesterday’s court proceedings and the court imposed several conditions of release such as to being a law abiding citizen and keep peace in the family.

JACOB VILIAMU

Also in District Court yesterday for his initial appearance was Jacob Viliamu, who is charged with two counts of third degree assault and one count of public peace disturbance — also misdemeanors.

The charges against Viliamu stem from an incident over the weekend in Fagaalu where the defendant is alleged to have assaulted two of his friends, who were having a drinking partying with him.

Court information states that the two friends got into a serious argument and as things were getting worse, Viliamu intervened, trying to put an end to the dispute. However, the two friends didn’t stop, resulting in the defendant assaulting the pair by punching each friend in the face.

By the time police arrived at Viliamu’s home, the two friends were gone and only the defendant was present. Viliamu declined to give police the whereabouts of his friends, but instead agreed to take the full blame for the incident. It’s suspected that neighbors called police for assistance.

Viliamu was released from custody, but was ordered by the court not to make any contact with his two friends, or any other government witnesses in this case and be a law abiding citizen.
