Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The 6th annual Workforce Day, organized by the ASG, will be held at the Fagatogo Malae, and will coincide with the dedication of two government projects — later this month.

Speaking at last week Thursday’s cabinet meeting, Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga said the Workforce Day celebration will continue as another important event for the administration, which initiated it in 2013 — when the Lolo Administration took office — to recognize and honor American Samoa’s workforce, in both the private and public sector.

“This is a very important event for all our workers,” Lolo said, adding that this year’s event is set for Aug. 30th and will be held at the Malaeoletalu in Fagatogo, instead of Veterans Memorial Stadium, which was the venue for the past 5 years.

As per norm, the government has reached out to the private sector for their participation. Details of the celebration will be released later this month.

On that same day, Aug. 30th, Lolo said ASG will host dedication ceremonies for two projects: the new two-story Jean P. Hayden Museum, and the newly renovated Fagatogo Pavilion.

Workforce Day is not a day off for ASG workers, and the majority of them participate in the festivities, which include a parade. Employees who opt not to participate, take leave.

MANU’A CESSION DAY

Lolo explained that during Manu’a Cession Day, or Manu’a Flag Day on July 16th, the celebration — for the first time — was broadcast live from Ta’u island on KVZK-TV and also streamed live to the rest of the world.

American Samoa TeleCommunications Authority (ASTCA) provided the telecom link for the KVZK broadcast. Past celebrations were tape recorded and aired later on KVZK.

The governor commended the Office of Public Information (KVZK) director for this achievement, and especially ASTCA chief executive officer, Lewis Wolman, who was congratulated for a job well done.

Lolo said to Wolman, this is a “good step forward [and] keep up the good work and hopefully we will continue” to do this great work.
