Bluesky's future for American Samoa scholarships announced

Four graduates were presented scholarships from Bluesky Communications yesterday at the company's main office at the Laufou Shopping Center. Bluesky is proud to announce its continued commitment to the empowerment and investment into the youth of Am. Samoa by granting a total four scholarships for the upcoming 2017/2018 academic school year.

This is now the third year of Bluesky's Future of Am. Samoa Scholarship Program, which demonstrates the company's continued support of our young leaders in this next chapter of their educational journey that'll impact not only the future of Bluesky, but the territory of American Samoa.

Based on the applications received and allowable scholarship funds for this upcoming academic year, Bluesky is awarding a total of four scholarships: three $14,000.00 off island scholarships payable at $3500.00 over four years and one $4000.00 scholarship to ASCC payable at $2000.00 over two years. 

Selection of this year's scholarship recipients were based on their academic results which included a minimum overall GPA of 3.50, minimum SAT score of 1050  or ACT of 20, good references, community service hours, quality of the applicant essay, and their interviews with the scholarship committee.

Each selected recipient have been accepted to an accredited four year university off island or to the Am. Samoa Community College and will be majoring in fields that are relevant to Bluesky, including Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering and a variety of business studies such as Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, or Communications.

This year's Bluesky's Future of American Samoa scholarship recipients are:

  1. Tedy Barber - Graduate of Fagaitua High School who is planning to attend St. Martins University.  
  2. Gabrielle Langkilde - Graduate of Faasao Marist High School who is planning to attend Harvard University 
  3. Farah Young - Graduate of Tafuna High School who is planning to attend  Northern Arizona Univeristy
  4. Casidhe Mahuka - Graduate of Faasao Marist High School who is planning to attend ASCC.

In addition to receiving scholarship awards for each semester, each student will also have an opportunity to intern with Bluesky during the summer months if they return back home to Am. Samoa.
