Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Following an electrical fire that happened when an exhaust vent shorted on June 19th, the Retail Store, was the only Bluesky Communications operations that remained at Laufou Shopping Center.

The rest of the company’s operations that were on the second floor of Laufou were temporarily relocated to Bluesky Technical Support Center in Ili’ili.  But last Friday, these operations started returning to their Laufou offices.

Bluesky Pacific Group chief executive officer Toleafoa Tiafau Douglas Creevey told reporters last Friday that since the fire, most of the company’s administration and management personnel — including the call center, as well as sales and marketing — have been working out of their Ili’ili facility, while the Retail Store was reopened after the fire.

“The main thing that was stopping us from moving back, was the air conditioning that wasn’t working. We had electricity but there was no air conditioning,” he said and noted that Laufou — on the second floor, has no windows.

Manu’a High NHS donation should be a challenge to other NHS chapters

Education Department director Dr. Ruth Matagi-Tofiga said the recent monetary donation to LBJ Medical Center by the National Honor Society (NHS) at Manu’a High School should serve as a challenge to other NHS chapters in the territory.

Matagi-Tofiga, on behalf of Manu’a High’s NHS made on June 22, a $1,000 donation to the hospitals End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Dialysis Unit. (See Samoa News edition June 27 for details.)

“As we completed High School graduations, and the majority of our students are taking Summer vacation, participating in the Summer Youth Employment Program or reading programs,  Manu'a High School National Honor Society Chapter has been busy fundraising for their Community Project” for the ESRD unit, said Matagi-Tofiga responding to Samoa News inquiries.

She added, “This is a challenge to all NHS Chapters, get involved in community service, develop empathy and leadership skills, and realize how their actions can have a positive impact.” She noted that Manu’a High NHS started this donation last year, as part of its community service.
