Biz Beat: SOPAC holds grand opening for its new warehouse

Last week Thursday evening, the owner and head of South Pacific Distributors (SOPAC) Frank Shimizu and his sons cut the ula laumei for the grand opening of the SOPAC warehouse in Iliili, across from the Veterans Memorial Stadium. Last week the head of South Pacific Distributors (SOPAC) Frank Shimizu flew in with his wife and sons for the grand opening of the SOPAC warehouse in Tafuna.

SOPAC is a family owned business based in Guam. Shimizu, in his welcoming remarks said that each of his sons is running the company in other destinations and it’s an honor for them to be able to come to American Samoa to cut the ribbon to open the new warehouse.

 “Our goal is to open and expand in many other areas.” he told Samoa News.

Mike Tolmie, General Manager of the SOPAC in American Samoa said during his opening remarks, that his aim was to get the warehouse done in 2 months, but they got it done in 3 months and 14 days.

According to Paramount, the company that built the warehouse, this was the fastest warehouse built on island.

Father Vaiula Iulio blessed the warehouse and Shimizu together with his two sons cut the ula laumei to open the new warehouse. A tour around the huge warehouse showed it is composed of offices, a conference room and a sports bar, which will be used to train bartenders, waitresses and waiters.

 Dinner, drinks and live entertainment were served to over 100 guests — business owners, gov’t directors, family and friends who attended the event.

SOPAC is located across from the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Iliili. They are the sole distributor of Budweiser & Bud Light beer, Aloha brand juices & drinks, as well as Enfamil — infant formula milk. Expansion of their product lines is expected in the near future.
