Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA —  Two men were arrested last week for fighting during a birthday party in Pago Pago.

Fetuafiafi Apelu and Lafitaga Tagoa’i made their initial appearances in District Court last Friday. They are charged with third degree assault and disturbing the public peace.

District Court Judge Pro-Tem Gwen Tauiliili-Langkilde released both men on their own recognizance, subject to the usual conditions: remain drug and alcohol free, and maintain the peace at home at all times.

Court affidavit states that it was in the middle of Tagoa’i father’s birthday party when Apelu started walking around the guest house and yelling profanities.

Tagoa’i ran over to Apelu and allegedly punched him in the face, at which point Apelu stood up and punched Tagoa’i in the face — and a fight between the two men ensued.

Police arrived at the scene and were able to calm the situation. Afterwards, both men were transported to the DPS Central Station for questioning.

They were later booked and confined at the Territorial Correctional Facility (TCF).

According to court records, Apelu is on probation for 12 months, after being convicted in February this year of third degree assault and trespassing. One of the conditions of his probation was to be alcohol free and be a law abiding citizen.
