The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) launched its electronic top up (eTopUp) service for pre-pay mobile customers, which replaces the ASTCA scratch cards with automatic electronic transfer, using the latest mobile phone technology.

The eTopUp is now available at over 130 store locations across the territory.

According to ASTCA, the new service offers convenience to customers who no longer have to scratch a physical card to top up their phone.

All the customer has to do is provide their phone number to the store owner who will then use an application on their mobile phone or the web, to transfer the top up — or credit — to their phone.

Simply put, the customer can now conveniently pay and go.

To confirm that the transfer is complete, the customer will receive an SMS confirmation.

The new service, according to ASTCA, is not only convenient for the customer, it also helps store owners who no longer have to carry scratch card inventory, and can access their top up from anywhere using their mobile phone.

“ASTCA is happy to launch this service improvement for our customers and our store vendors," said ASTCA Chairman and Acting CEO, Puleleiite Li’a Tufele. "We want to apply technology to add convenience and make life easier for our people - and this is one example."

In addition, Pulelei'ite continued, "This is an environmentally friendly solution because it eliminates the need for scratch cards which usually end up as trash after they’ve been used."

Pulelei'ite acknowledges and thanks the ASTCA staff, their store partners, and "especially our loyal customers for their support. This is the first of many improvement projects we at ASTCA are working on, and we look forward to doing more for our customers and the territory.”
