Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The US Army Reserve will hold a two-day community forum on Sept. 12 and 13 at the Army Reserve Center in Tafuna to explain and address public concerns on the Army Reserve’s plan to install in Tafuna a Modular Small Arms Range (MSAR) facility.

The Sept. 12 forum is from 2p.m to 5p.m and the Sept. 13 gathering is from 9am to 12 noon. The MSAR facility, to be constructed this year or next year, is an indoor shooting range.

According to the Army Reserve, the enclosed shooting bay — which will meet federal safety and environmental requirements — will support weapon skills training to promote combat readiness for all Army Reserve soldiers in American Samoa and maybe utilized ASG agencies under the Army Reserve’s supervision.

The 9th Mission Support Command, which is based at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, will address during the forum safety concerns and give the community the opportunity to provide input for the location of the facility.

The Army Reserve — which has already sent out a notice to local officials to attend the town hall meeting or provide input, is in the process of making the decision of where to place the MSAR, according to officials.
