Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed Congressional action renewing funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which helps ensure access to medical care for many children throughout the country, including American Samoa. Congresswoman Amata also called for the program to be fully reauthorized and funded for the long term.

“I’m very pleased that Congress acted before Christmas to ensure that the necessary funds for the Children’s Health Insurance Program will be available, and that the government is funded into the new year,” said Aumua Amata. “We can count on the funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program for the months ahead, and I strongly support its long-term reauthorization and funding for the future.”

The House of Representatives passed 477 bills in an active 2017, well above the annual average. As part of this week’s votes to complete the year, Congress renewed essential funding for the CHIP program through March 2018 and otherwise financed the federal government.

“Ensuring that CHIP funding remains readily available was the responsible course of action,” continued Congresswoman Amata. “I look forward to seeing CHIP renewed in 2018 for years to come, and I appreciate the widespread bipartisan commitment in Congress to preserving this health insurance plan for children.”
