Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day.

 “I wish everyone a Happy Women’s History Month and Women’s Day!” said Congresswoman Amata. “I want to start by highlighting the daily efforts of the women in American Samoa’s congressional office, as they do so much to help our people, and I appreciate each one of them very much.

 “We all know the incredible contributions that the women in our lives and throughout our history have made to our society,” she continued. “As American Samoa’s first female representative to Congress, I am especially aware that I would not be where I am without all the examples and sacrifices of the women that preceded me. In the Samoan culture, women have always held exalted positions. From Taemā and Tilafaigā to the women of today, Samoan women have fought for, advocated on behalf of, and defended our people.

 “Join me in thinking of these wonderful women of our history, as we show our appreciation and do our part to ensure the future of the next generation of women in American Samoa.”
