Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Aumua Amata released the following statement in commemoration of Flag Day 2019:

“All of us in American Samoa know what a special day April 17th is for our people. This has been a wonderful week already. Flag Day is always such a perfect time of joy and unity, and I’m delighted to be home – a true highlight of the year.

"It’s really a joy to see every generation, people of all ages, enjoying this holiday together. I take pride in telling colleagues in Washington how we hold various events all week long, and celebrate the first raising of the U.S. flag in American Samoa.

"It’s a blessing to share our culture and traditions around the country and wherever I go. Our heritage, our Samoan way and our patriotism will always bring strength to our people, and these are gifts from God. We usually have some good friends visiting the islands, some of our own back for a visit or relatives from Samoa, but our thoughts are also with many serving our country in the Armed Forces who can’t be home for Flag Day.”
