LIONS CLUB EYE CARE DOCTORS AT LBJ

Members of the Lions Club of Pago Pago were on hand Saturday morning, Nov. 22 to greet the visiting team of doctors and nurses from Oregon Health Sciences University and Casey Eye Institute of Portland, Oregon, who are here in the territory as part of the Lions annual Eye Care Project. LBJ CEO Taufete’e warmly greeted the group in his offices, and thanked them for their unselfish work, particularly for coming here during the Thanksgiving season to serve our people.

The group is led by Dr. Mitch Brinks, (standing, back row, center)  an ophthalmologist now living in Oregon who was once a resident in the territory on contract with LBJ. Taufete’e was the CEO when Dr. Brinks worked here before, and there were warm greetings of respect and friendship exchanged at the meeting.

For the next two weeks, LBJ Medical Center will see many bright golden Lion jackets in the halls and clinics, as the Lions work to help people through the stations of vision screening and eye exams set up within the hospital, free of charge for residents. The eye surgeons, who have made the trip, will be performing primarily cataract and pterygium surgeries.
