Leone High School receives accreditation approval from WASC- ACS

Leone High School has received an official letter of notice for their accreditation status, from the (WASC) Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Accrediting Commission for Schools, announcing it has been granted a three-year term of accreditation, expiring on June 30, 2015.

The letter is from WASC-ACS Commission Chairperson, Mr. Harlan Lyso.

Leone High School was visited for four days this past March by the WASC Visiting Committee Team, composed of former principals and vice principals, veteran teachers, and education specialists from the State of Hawaii’s Department of Education.

The team visited LHS classrooms, engaged in student activities, observed the operation, its environment and the school culture. Meetings were held after instructional time with Home Groups, Focus Groups, the Leadership Team, PTA and DOE officials, regarding student learning, leadership, governance and support programs.

Each (FOL) Focus on Learning group consisted of Leone High School’s administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and alumnis.

During the visitation review in March, WASC Visiting Team Chairmen Roberta Richards explained that ”we are here to review and validate the findings of this report compiled by Leone High School. We will recommend to WASC, through our findings, what areas LHS has to address to continue the sustainment of student achievement.”

Principal Li’omatua Haili Ripley states that the process of participation from our stakeholders, which are the parents, teachers, staff, students and alumni, empowers us to critically self-examine our school’s plan, set our own goals and assess if our goals are met for continuous improvement.

This year’s accreditation achievement is due to all Lion Team stakeholders. Their resilient spirit after the 9/2009 Tsunami, never wavered nor did they disengage themselves from focusing on learning.

Liomatua commented, “I would like to credit our stakeholders especially our Self-Study Coordinators Mr. Douglas Berquist and Mrs. Soonalote T. Faavale, members of the Leadership Team, Home Groups, Focus Groups and PTA, who did their best with this task, and as teachers, kept to their priority of classroom teaching and student learning — “UNITY IS OUR STRENGTH”.
