Legislation expected to ease business license red tape

One piece of legislation that American Samoa lawmakers are expected to receive when they convene next month for the 4th and final session of the 32nd Legislature, deals with  amendments to the current law for obtaining a business license.

The Chamber of Commerce and many in the private sector have complained for years that the process to obtain a business license takes up to six months and is very complicated, involving up to four or five government agencies.

However, the Chamber’s chairman David Robinson told members of the private sector on Thursday that this process is going to be made easy with legislation that the Chamber of Commerce and the government have been working on.

He says provisions of the proposal would enable business licenses to be issued within five business days. Robinson hopes the Fono will come out in support of the measure.
