Key witness in Apia land fraud trial breaks down

A key witness in the trial of a former Member of Parliament accused of fraud broke down twice in the Supreme Court last week, under questions from lawyer, Tole’afoa Solomona Toa’iloa.Vaselisa Nikolao Niupulusu, the woman who posed as Theresa Stowers, was being cross-examined by Tole’afoa when he asked her if she is a person “who is prone to lying.” On the fourth day of the trial, Tole’afoa posed the question to Ms Niupulusu, after a day of denials and contradiction.Tole’afoa is representing former Member of Parliament, Toluono Feti Toluono, who is charged with two counts of fraud. Justice Pierre Slicer is presiding over the hearing. Tole’afoa said Ms Niupulusu knew the owners of the land parcels.
