APIA, Samoa — No lead up disruptions of nightmare proportions this week for Manu Samoa.But in Italy, Samoa’s second opponents in the four-nation tournament in South Africa, they face a battle hardened unit.To be sure Italy got beaten by South Africa last week in their first game of the tournament, but it’s a plus for them against Samoa.It’s an addition to their bank of tests played so far this year fresh as they are from a Six Nations campaign in Europe just completed.Manu Samoa played just one test this year and limited time to prepare.“Italy will be another great challenge for us,” captain Paul Williams told Talamua from South Africa.“They managed to beat France this year, an opportunity we were desperately disappointed to miss out on doing in our November 2012 tour,” Williams said.“They also beat us in Italy in 2007, so we have plenty of incentive to do the best we can this week in preparation for another big test this weekend,” he said.Manu Samoa have less reasons to lose to Italy overall.Last week was a nightmare in terms of preparation for a test, especially against a team they’ve never beaten before.That Manu Samoa won against Scotland was against the odds.Misrepresented in the mediaIn the warm up game against the Lions they didn’t even have a full squad to take the field, as for one thing, some of them players had final club commitments to fulfill before rushing to South Africa.“For a number of reasons we ended up with only 19 fit players to take the field three of those having assembled with the team the day before the game,” said Williams.They had to use three non-professional players from South Africa to complete the squad.They got hammered 74-14 by the Lions.Apart from the disappointment of an incomplete squad and the big loss there was the frustration of seeing themselves misrepresented in the media.
