Three local Army recruits have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. They are: Army Pfc. Persophine F. Reid, Army Pfc. Michael J. Faikoia and Army Pfc. Jack P. Penitusi.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Reid is a 2007 graduate of Fagaitua High School and earned an associate degree in 2009 from the American Samoa Community College, Pago Pago American Samoa.

Faikoia is the son of Michael Faikoia and grandson of Falaniko Leemo, both of American Samoa. He is a 2011 graduate of Fagaitua  High School.

Penitusi is the son of Jack and Taiafi Penitusi of American Samoa. He is a 2007 graduate of Fagaitua High School and earned an associate degree in 2010 from the American Samoa Community College, Pago Pago, American Samoa.
