Governor has busy Hawaii meeting schedule

Gov. Togiola Tulafono departed the territory Sunday night to attend several meetings in Hawai’i and he returns home on Jan. 22, according to a news release from the governor’s office over the weekend.

While in Hawai’i, the governor has scheduled meetings in Honolulu with  Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Affairs Anthony Babauta and Director of the Office of Insular Affairs Nikolao Pula. The subject(s) of the meeting were not available from the governor’s office.

He is then scheduled to travel to Hilo on the Big Island for a meeting regarding Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion and geothermal power development. While in Hilo, the governor and First Lady Mary Ann Tulafono will also meet with American Samoa students who are attending the University of Hawaii, Hilo campus.

Togiola will also travel to Kauai for a tour of the Breadfruit Institute, a laboratory under the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Lihue, which began exporting tens of thousands of breadfruit treelings last year to provide a sustainable food source for the hungry around the globe.

And, as a director of the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which oversees the local Boys Scouts program, the governor will also attend the Board of Directors meeting in Honolulu.
