Three aspiring young leaders are representing Samoa in The Future Leaders of the Pacific Conference in American Samoa this week.The conference’s main organizer, the U.S. Embassy, selected Karl Laulu, Toai Bartley and Theresa Penn to represent Samoa because of their record of hard work, community service, and ability to communicate effectively amongst their peers.All three are younger than 26 and work at the Ministries of Finance, Environment and Foreign Affairs & Trade, respectively.U.S. Ambassador David Huebner met with the Samoan participants last week in Apia to congratulate them on their selection.“This is a great opportunity for them to expand their networks with other young leaders and engage in meaningful discussions that will ensure a better, brighter future for the Pacific region,” he said.The conference will provide a platform for aspiring young leaders from each Pacific Island Forum country to meet and discuss shared issues that their generation faces.The conference will largely center on climate change, public health, gender equality and sustainable development.The Head of State, His Highness TuiAtua Tupua TamaseseEfi and Masiofo Filifilia Tamasese, Governor of American Samoa Lolo Matalasi Moliga as well as the Premier of Niue TokeTufukiaTalagi will be guests of honour at the event.
