Former Samoa Lotto supervisor faces 50 charges

Theft charges against a former supervisor of Samoa Sportslotto Nora Neemia are currently being heard in the Supreme Court.Ms. Neemia faces 50 charges of theft and has pleaded not guilty to the allegations against her.The hearing, which commenced on Tuesday morning is being presided over by Supreme Court Justice Pierre Slicer.The amount involved in the matter was not released when the Samoa Observer attended the matter on Wednesday despite seeking this information from the defence lawyer.The defendant is represented by defence lawyer Tima Leavai.Prosecuting lawyer is Leinafo Taimalelagi.Prosecution has 10 witnesses to give evidence in the matter.The first witness is former CEO Matalena Toomata.During cross examination Mrs Toomata was asked if she was forced to resign from Samoa Sportslotto.Defence counsel Tima Leavai asked whether Mrs Toomata was fired as a direct result of these missing monies that her client is now being accused of before the court.Mrs Toomata agreed, however she refused to say why.She only said it was due to differences between her and the Board of the Samoa Sportslotto.
