GIRLS SOFTBALL

This year’s ASHSAA girls softball season concluded last Saturday with a championship match up between #1 ranked Samoana Sharks and #3 defending champions, the Fa’asao Marist Cougars.

The Cougars were able to defeat the power hitting Sharks with a final score of 23-6, thanks to great pitching by Gabrielle Langkilde and excellent defense by the Cougars who were able to secure the win and defend their championship title.

The Cougars made it to the finals when they defeated the #4 Leone Lions in the quarterfinals and the #2 Tafuna Warriors in the semifinals. The Sharks had a free ride to the finals thanks to their #1 ranking.

The #5 Faga’itua Vikings had a voluntary forfeit in the quarterfinals against the Warriors, thrusting Tafuna to the semifinals where they fell to the Cougars. After Saturday’s finals, Deja Nua of the Cougars was honored with the championship game’s Most Valuable Player award, while the Coach of the Year award went to Cougars head coach Victor Langkilde.
