DPS again urged to safeguard students crossing Airport Road

Rep. Larry Sanitoa has asked Chief of Police Maiava Vaimaga for support with the presence of police officers at the very busy intersection of the main road and airport road in Nu’uuli due to safety concerns of students crossing this intersection heading to and from Manulele Elementary School.

While there were officers previously present at the intersection, Sanitoa said that this week, it’s noticeable that the officers are no longer present in the mornings or afternoon with the Manulele students crossing.  “On rainy days it's not a problem as there are fewer students walking to school. However on a clear day - the student pedestrians in the morning and after school are frequent and numerous,” he wrote to Vaimaga.

“In addition, the STOP sign for the intersection may have been run over by a vehicle as it is not present. This adds to the hazard to both vehicles and pedestrians,” he said, adding that he was asking Public Works to help repair the STOP sign for the intersection.
