Dentists fan out over the territory during Children’s Dental Health Month

A strong emphasis is on the dental health of the territory’s children this month, as Governor Lolo Moliga has proclaimed February as National Children’s Dental Health Month.

Outreach programs are being conducted, with dentists from the Dept. of Health and the LBJ Medical Center visiting local daycare centers and schools to perform dental exams and offer helpful information on how to maintain proper oral hygiene.

In his proclamation, Governor Lolo announced that the American Samoa Government joins the DOH and the LBJ “in promoting good oral health throughout community outreach activities”.

He added, “Good health can be achieved in part through good oral health habits learned early in childhood and reinforced throughout life.” The Governor continued, “An oral health literate and educated public is more empowered to embrace healthy oral hygiene and dietary behaviors.”

Dental Caries or tooth decay, is the most common chronic disease found in children.
