Democratic Party of American Samoa holds special election

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa — The Democratic Party of American Samoa held a special election on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Toa Bar and Grill to fill the recently vacated positions of Executive Director and Treasurer. The positions were vacated after the 2012 election cycle with the departure from the Territory of Executive Director, Mr. Sean Morrison and the resignation of Treasurer, Mr. Karl Prendergast.

 

Mr. Andrew D. Berquist was elected as the Executive Director and Ms. Caroline Rising-Maxey was elected as the Treasurer. They will complete the terms of their predecessors. All other board positions remain the same as per the June 2012 election.

 

“Mr. Berquist and Ms. Maxey each bring a wealth of knowledge in their own right,” stated the Democratic Party of American Samoa Chair Ali’imau JR Scanlan, “We are excited to see where the local party will be going leading up to the 2014 mid-term elections and how the party can work with the new administration and community in shaping future policy for the Territory”. He went on to say he is confident the party membership has the right people to get the job done.

 

The Democratic Party of American Samoa meets monthly and has a registered membership of 600 with around 25 regular attendees at its monthly meetings.  For more information you can visit the local party website at http://asdems.org/.

 

The next Democratic Party of American Samoa meeting is on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Toa Bar and Grill from 6pm to 8pm. Current party members and future members are welcome.
