Death could’ve been avoided, says Samoa's top cop

The death of 22-year-old National University of Samoa (NUS) student, Roy Shiloh Tuiletufuga could have been avoided.  Mr Tuiletufuga died at Vaitele during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Assistant Police Commissioner, Le’aupepe Fatu Pula said the young man died from serious injuries to his head and chest.

“If he had worn a seat belt at the time of the impact, he could have been saved,” Le’aupepe told the Samoa Observer yesterday.

Le’aupepe also disputed rumours that the young man died as a result of a beating.

“There was no such thing. He died from severe head and chest injuries caused by the car accident.”

A 19-year-old male of Toamua who was driving the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol, Le’aupepe said.
