Date for Sili boy’s court hearing set

Police have not dropped the charge of inciting insulting words against the Sili youth accused of badmouthing Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi. The youth allegedly insulted the Prime Minister in a video clip that was posted to the video social networking site YouTube some months ago.As a result Acting Police Commissioner Misa Talaimanu Keti said the boy is expected to appear in court for mention on 27 January 2014.“We are still going ahead with the charge against the boy while taking into consideration the apology that has been made and accepted by the Prime Minister,” said Misa.He said this information on the apology would also be presented to the court for their consideration.“The court will decide from there what will happen next.”Misa said the main reason behind going forward with the charge against the youth is to deter others from engaging again in such “stupidity”.He believes there is an urgent need to enforce deterrence of such actions by young people because it is becoming a habit.“Youth these days want to make a mark just because someone else has done it and this is why we must deter such stupidity because it needs to stop,” he said.He said the language used by the youth in the video clip was inappropriate and that the actions altogether were stupid as it was directed at the Prime Minister of Samoa.
