Cruise ships visit territory today and next week

American Samoa Visitors’ Bureau said the second cruise ship for this month calls into port at 8am today arriving from Bora Bora, French Polynesia. The ship ‘Sea Princess’ will then depart at 5pm for Auckland, New Zealand.

The third and final cruise ship for October is the ‘Volendam’ an annual visitor which arrives from Honolulu, Hawaii on October 11 before departing in the evening for Suva, Fiji Islands.

The ships will bring up to 7,600 passengers and crew to the territory, according to the Visitors’ Bureau e-Newsletter.

The first ship that called in this month was the ‘Rhapsody of the Seas’ — which arrived Tuesday this week from Lahaina, Hawaii and left for Apia, Samoa bringing into port up to 7,000 passengers and crew.

The Visitors’ Bureau is again asking the local community to showcase our traditional Samoan hospitality and welcome our visitors with a ‘talofa’ and a smile.

The ‘Hospitality Event’ being held at Utulei Beach for the visitors will feature local ‘ula’ making, as well as other food demonstrations. The event is in partnership with the Native Hawaiian Holding Company One Stop Job center, the American Samoa Culinary Institute and the Visitors’ Bureau. The Event was first held during the arrival of the ‘Volendam’ last week.
