Court Report

VILI ONEY

The High Court had to reschedule sentencing for drug defendant Vili Oney, which had been set for yesterday before Associate Justice Lyle L Richmond and Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr., because the probated sentence report was not ready, and had yet to be made available to the court and all parties concerned.

The new sentencing date for Oney, who is represented by Sharron Rancourt, is Friday, June 1, 2012.

According to the government’s case Oney was arrested following a raid of the defendant’s home in March.

Oney is facing a single count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance of marijuana, a felony that is punishable from five to ten years in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

Court filings say that when police questioned the defendant he immediately admitted the marijuana found in his room belonged to him. Prosecuting for this matter is Assistant Attorney General Cable Poag.

VICTOR LIWAN TACLOLOY

The government has made a plea deal offer for Victor Liwan Tacloloy, charged in connection with a sexually related case. Tacloloy, a Philippine national, is charged with sexual abuse, resisting arrest, third degree assault and public peace disturbance.

This case was heard before Associate Justice Lyle L Richmond who was accompanied on the bench by Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr.

Assistant Public Defender Leslie Cardin informed the court that the defendant is represented by Public Defender Ruth Risch Fuatagavi, however given that the Public Defender is out sick, she asked the court for a brief continuance.

Cardin told the court that the defense has received a plea offer by the government, however the Public Defender is yet to meet with the defendant to discuss the plea offer.

The Associate Justice granted the continuance and scheduled this matter for another pre-trial conference hearing on June 11, 2012.

According to the government’s case the defendant engaged in a drinking session with a girl and it is alleged after the party he touched the minor inappropriately. This is alleged to have occurred in October 2011.

Deputy Attorney General Mitzie Jessop Folau is prosecuting in this matter.
