Cooks government hopes Northen Group will soon be serviced by Samoa

The Cook Islands government is ironing out some details of an agreement with the Samoan Shipping Corporation for a cargo vessel to service the northern group directly from Apia. The first voyage was initially supposed to be in November, but negotiations have not been completed and so the service’s commencement has been stalled. The Government is not exactly sure when the first cargo ship from Samoa will journey to northern group islands, but hopes it will be soon.Cook Islands news says it has been a bad year for cargo services, since one of two Cook Islands cargo vessels stranded on Mauke’s reef in October 2010.In the 13 months since, the northern group islands have been visited infrequently.
