Charlie makes Heart2heart Donation

StarKist Samoa General Manager Brett Butler and Tufuga Fa’afo’i  presenting a check of $15,000 last week to help the LBJ Medical Center’s Pediatric Ward fund airfares and equipment freight for a group of doctors and their assistants from the Oregon Health Science University to treat 247 local children with heart problems.

According to Mike Favazza, MD, of the LBJ Pediatric Ward, “67% of all these children with heart problems suffered Rheumatic Heart Disease — it is an NCD and it can be cured if done early. This is becoming too common in our children and the LBJ and DoH are determined to lower these numbers next year.”

Butler also thanked their partners in this fundraising and said “It is StarKist’s best way to celebrate our 50th anniversary, to have a heart, to give for a good heart for our children!”
